My projects, part 3; Arcade123

Hi there,

Arcade123.com was a domain name I back ordered on snapnames, installed a free arcade script on it and as usual put it aside.

Checking my bandwidth stats a month later showed a good amount of activity on it then I installed Adsense code it started earning around $0.50-$1 a day since it didn’t have much games and people were looking for other places so it had low traffic but good Clickthrough.

Currently It runs on a commercial featured script and it’s getting around 200 uniques with more than 2000 pageviews a day.

Comparing to the beginning the traffic is increased but the revenue hasn’t changed much. It earns around $0.7-$1.1 a day except the weekends that is much less.

Traffic is all Typed-in ! I’m not sure what this domain was before but for sure it is an example of a guessable URLs.

In terms of revenue I think Adsense isn’t good for such a website and I should use this traffic in another way but since I’m not a gamer, I don’t have a good idea about it.

Again, suggestions and ideas are really appreciated.

Cheers,

Soroush

My projects, part 2; LiveProxies

Hi,

Tomorrow I’m starting a crazy busy week so I think I won’t be able to do much  about this blog during the week, that’s why I try to use this weekend and post as much as I can.

I registered LiveProxies.com sometime back in Feb 2007 as an Internet Proxy List and a month later on March 20th  I installed Wordpress and started doing some modifications on script but didn’t have the plan to launch it soon.  Again I got busy working on other projects and I almost forgot to work on it and one day, while checking Google Adsense reports I saw some page impressions reporting from LiveProxies.com channel.

Immediately installed Google Analytics code on it to monitor where the traffic come from and it was beyond my expectation, all Organic from MSN and Technorati.

Then I started advertising on forums requesting proxy owners to post their web proxy sites for free without link back to site and the site became more and more popular getting better ranking as the content grows .

Revenue isn’t much and it is around $30 a month, but for a new site with less than 5 minutes a day maintenance and without any advertising, it seems fine.

Currently it has 57 proxy listings, ranks well in most of search engines for some related keywords and once in a while I run a limited $2 Adwords campaign for it since I know if the visitor likes it, the next time she/he won’t search and comes directly to the site and what I see is increase on the number of direct requests to the site that is the best result.

I think it’s a win-win-win situation, I’m happy as my site is getting more popular, the visitor is satisfied since he found the proper web proxy that works (When that one got blocked, he will come back to site to find another one), the proxy owners are happy since they are getting traffic for free.

For the people who may be interested to know, LiveProxies.com is powered by Wordpress some plugins, with some customizations on theme and script made by myself.

Ideas and Suggestions are always welcome.

Cheers,

Soroush

My projects, part 1; httpForum

Ok, Finally a weekend and I got the time to start thinking about what my done and undone projects are.

I already mentioned about httpforum in my previous post so here is the story…

… Checking site and domain market is one of my addictions everyday and one day this beautiful domain name grabbed my attention so I bought it at BIN, seconds after the auction started and 2 other people placed their standby offer immediately after me, so it proved the potential of this name.
I couldn’t believe I got it with such a reasonable price.

Immediately started searching for a good forum script and finally ended up with IPB and I think it was my first mistake as I could have purchased VB with better support, more plugins and nicer skins. Anyway it was my first forum experience and my quick research wasn’t accurate enough as I was too excited and just wanted to launch it.Anyway I think within 3-4 days the board was up but during the initial board setup I did my second mistake by creating too many forums on it. Then I purchased some paid posting packages, started a limited budget ad campaign on Adbrite and put a text links on my signature on other forums and the forum became active getting more and more members and posts everyday.

After around 3 months the result wasn’t bad, $3-4 per day from Adsense with good number of active members.

Everything was getting better till I went to a vacation for around 40 days on Dec. 2006 till Jan. 2007 !

When I came back I faced a frozen forum !

There were barely new posts since 10 days after my departure, even no spam post and the reason was a problem showing up in the login process causing members not to be able to login.

Anyway since then till now the forum is almost dead in term of posting but pretty active in getting new members without any advertisement ! It’s getting 10-15 new members everyday but close to nobody seems to have interest in posting., maybe 2-3 a week.

I know I can send a mass mail but I really want to gather all my ideas, change the forum script, skin and structure and then notify members by sending the mass mail but I believe there should be an incentive to make people prefer it over the others and this is what I need to think about.

What are the features or incentives people like, that can’t be found on other big forums ?

Comment, ideas and suggestions are really appreciated.

Sorry for spelling and other mistakes as it’s almost 1:30 AM. and I’m writing with closed eyes.

Google pagerank update

What was the effect of this recent update for you and did you expect the result?

For me,

I got my 40 days old blog site to PR 4 from 0 !

Purchased oneway links, posted to directories, forum signatures and article submission.

Scriptbloggers got the PR 1.

Thanks Chris…

httpForum went down to 0 from 1 !

I will introduce httpForum in my next posts but as for now, it was my most beautiful dream with high hopes but became a forgotten project (personal problems in the worst time) so I haven’t promote it, didn’t renew the links I’d purchased and removed it from my forum signature so I expected such a downgrade.

I see no change for the rest of my sites.

Who cares?

The fact is that I don’t care much about Pagerank but it is a factor when it comes to popular search terms on google.

I was getting traffic from google since the first days my site got indexed without Pagerank, just because of frequency of the unique updates, but it was temporary and it seems that I’ve lost google’s attention since my content got older.

I guess this Pagerank can be helpful in long term and put more weight on my site’s content comparing to others with lower PR.

I will try to write my project list shortly. :)

Cheers,

Soroush

Jiosis acquires Scriptbloggers !

Interesting News, as hot as “SDL acquires Tridion” ! (LOL)

Well, I’m sure it won’t be too far since I already have my plans to create a huge internet empire using the experience I gained through years.

Anyways

Hello, My name is Soroush and I’ve purchased this blog from Chris recently since I found a lot of similar goals with him as stated on his last post.

I have a network of 50-54 incomplete sites, waiting for my attention for years but this network is getting bigger every month without a real success as I start projects before finishing the previous one and it’s the most annoying habit of mine.

I was in needed of a central place to put all my project’s progress, goals, testings methods and success stories to be discussed and even used by others since I’ve learned a lot from people on the net and this was my major reason to purchase this wonderful blog.

In the end, I hope this blog to be useful for everyone as well as me.

Cheers,

Soroush

P.S. Jiosis is absolutely a name without any meaning ! This was my company name for years and I’ve used it as an internet nickname so if you google it, you won’t find anything else rather than information related to myself and my previous company.
